Zanté Publication

This magazine is dedicated to my late father: a great man who I spent many times with and wish I spent many more times with. He is a big inspiration behind the vision of Zanté and the way I will carry on with myself.
Zanté is a lifestyle and fitness magazine whose aim is to get people into adapting a healthy lifestyle. There is a lot of stigma and fear that comes with starting a healthy lifestyle. Whether it's the influx of tips for diet or the complicated recipes that gets pushed onto the reader, a lot of competing health magazines will continue to push heavy amounts of information to their readers.

What if there was a way to make this information more engaging?

The challenge was to create a magazine that would be visually fun and interesting to the target audience. These would be anyone from 16-late 60's, who are looking to be healthy or are already healthy. This magazine wouldn't just be targeted towards men or women, but towards everyone. Zanté is a 12 month magazine subscription and focuses on a new topic each time.
The masthead is inspired by a French word called santé. Santé is used to exclaim that one has good health or to celebrate the health of others. It also directly translates to health in English. In order to give the magazine a fitness feeling, I replaced the "s" in santé with a "z". For the logo to relate to the reader, I changed the e's accent to a circle so that this and the e's counterform created a simplified version of a person. Additionally, the e will change colors each month so that collectors have a cue to remember the article.
This issue in particular, focuses on Colon Health and awareness.
I wanted to abstract the way people think about their colon. I took the idea of colon wall and used a typographic approach on the word to make it read like a colon. Colons are the long digestive track in humans and much like a journey with diagnosis, the track is also complicated. Colon\ health a scary topic, but I wanted to make it look fun by having it presented another way. I wanted to show the flow of fibrous foods passing through this journey. I used very vibrant colors to make this topic less scary, more fruity, and more exciting.
And at the end of the day, even if readers are still scared of talking or reading about their colon health, I want this third spread to be engrained in their minds.

I want readers to remember that artichokes, avocados, citrus, apples, greens, and much more are good for them. There's a lot to be said about the advancement in finding a cure for this disease, but I think there are methods we can approach to reduce our risks for colon cancer. Until then, I believe that everyone has a responsibility to inform each other about this topic.
This is my way of contributing my design skills to something that affected my dad and family. I would have loved to show him this publication and it has been such a bittersweet journey creating this whole magazine.
